    Post North Queensland Turning

I currently live and work in Brisbane and have been transferred to Cairns. I will arrive there in about early December.

Does anyone know any good wood turning supply firms up there. (For both wood and gear)

    Cool

    Lucky MJ, going to godzone..

I'm from Cairns, now living in Brisbane.. Unfortunately the turning bug just bit, so i can't say much from experience for sourcing supplies.

Timber should be pretty easy to find... try searching at
    www.yellowpages.com.au and www.anzwers.com.au
(make sure to check the 'Australia only' checkbox)

Here's one site (in Tully - near Cairns) http://adelaide.directory.citysearch...6/56/87/6.html

    Another timber supply place http://www.troptimber.com.au/Timber%20Frame.htm

NQ Power Tools sell lathes, bandsaws and accessories

    good luck,

Thanks Lance, I'm looking forward to heading north. I am hoping that there will be a greater availability of rainforest timbers up there. A couple of years ago we had a holiday in Port Douglas. Unfortunately we got hit with a cyclone which crossed the coast between Cairns and Port Douglas. A few days later we were driving up to Kuranda and we saw the Council crews cleaning up huge fallen trees. They were slicing them up into bits small enough to dump. My wife couldn't understand why I had tears in my eyes!

Hopefully we'll be in a position to take advantage of those golden opportunities.

    Thanks for your advice

If you have some time during your drive up the coast. I would suggest taking a couple of hours of the main h'way and go into Bunderberg. Theres a fairly good wood gallery to visit. Can't remember the name of the place, but they are mainly into Coopering - but they also have a good selection of turning and supplies. Get there at the right times and they will be doing demos. There gallery is also worth a good stickey beak..

Oh, just head to the bunderberg Rum distillery and you will pass it on your left one cornor before the distillery.

Just thought you may be interested..

    Cheers...

Oh, the Rum Distillery is also well worth a visit!!!
