Default A pair in a 'twisted' kind of way

Thanks smiife, you really made me push the limits

Sanded and opposite twist. They could still use a bit more sanding yet. With 3 previous rush attempts (now total of 5 twisted sticks) I finally have something I am happy to put on show.

this is the first one I started at 11

Then I started the second one and they kind of match. I rushed the second one and there are a few bits that could be better.

The reverse twist of the first one was definitely harder

    Default in a twist

    Hi dave,
Looking good mate,,,,,,, er did i mention you need a bit of detail
Top and bottom, couple of little beads a bit of a cup for the
Candle etc , and then narrow down where the spiral bit is,
thats the just the way I do it anyways
You are very persistant arn, t you, and do it the way you
want too, creating a pair to your specs and design is great
keep up the good work mate,,,
    Cheers smiife

I'd say you have really come a long ways since the last two attempts you showed. Looking very good. Unless you can afford to invest in a little sander like shown in other posts I do not know an easier way of sanding one. That is why I have only made one! I'd get some cloth backed sanding paper and start at about 80 grit and work up through the ranks. Not a real pleasant task, in my opinion. But when done you have something with a big WOW factor.

Is this better, a little sanding has been done.

Aside from the fact there are no beads and coves would the general concesus be a pass on the spirals or do I need more sanding?

From here the sanding looks good. Remount them on the lathe don't put too much pressure on them make a couple of beads equal distance from the spiral and part off just below/above the beads forming a tenon top and bottom as you do. Then turn a base and cap to fit onto the tenons fit a brass candle holder the larger type and then you have 1 Pair of candle sticks

well I kept going and made a two prong twist and a 3 prong twist.

Dont know if to post the pic here or start a new thread for opinions on the overall design (not so much the finish or lack there of
