    Default Pepper Grinding Mills

Bought some "crush grind" pepper grinding mechanisms from CWS a while back, and have started to have a crack at making some grinding mills. I have a few people asking for them.
First attempt was using salmon cast in blue epoxy resin to fill / highlight the natural cracking & sap inclusion in the timber. I was happy with the finish and with the way that the mechanism fitted and works - but the shape was definitely "playing it by ear" with no resemblance in the end to what I had originally pictured.

Today I finished my second attempt, which turned out much more like the size and shape that I originally had hoped for. Can still get them a bit taller with the kits that I bought - just a matter of finding a nice piece of timber that is long enough, or being creative with resin casting as I am limited a bit by the size of the pressure chamber that I have.

This one is gidgee from a tree I cut down in my son's front yard a few years ago - it had started dropping branches onto the footpath and street at the front of his house. No resin in this one - just the timber turned and finished with "EEE" and Aussie oil.

Started making a couple of blanks for my next attempt this afternoon while the weather is cool and I can get in the shed. This one will be mallee burl cast in epoxy resin. Looking forward to seeing if I can get it right.
