Bloody envious!!!

Sorry, thanked the wrong post - shouldda been dai sensei! Not that there was anything wrong with the "Envious" post, because I would have to agree with that.

For what looked like being a non-event, it looks to have worked out pretty well. Congrats to those involved.

Looks like we should plan on being there next year. Mrs Big A does quilting/patchwork so there would be an interest for her, and I would like to go to one of these events to see what they are like.

Prossy is just up the road a bit from Rocky - probably a 2 day drive with the caravan.

Was looking at going next year but it looks like a 50th anniversary of our teacher' college session might get in the way!!

Here are the things i made whilst here


Small mystery burl natural edge bowl (narrowed down to either a sub species of Red Mallee, Red Morrel, or Western Myall - from Ceduna SA). A few coats of NCL but I ran out, so still to rub down and recoat.

Some miniatures from Yellow Box and Queen Ebony (sitting on 5c piece for scale). Photos also show set-up as I use a led light/magnifying glass (taped to screen as it kept sagging on to chuck )

Lastly a green ant made from a scrap piece of Mango - everyone gets a piece to make something from. I've made similar ants at Q-turn but from rosewood, not highly figured soft Mango, the legs were a real test

Looks like you all had a good time! Well done.
Been perusing the pictures, what strikes me is....why is there no young people there? One guy looks like he may be under 50 years old, but that's about it. Not that 50 was ever considered young.
Any young folk (say under 30) woodturning these days?

it was a great weekend , we all had a ball oh and a correction on the white timber neil used to make the minitures it is actually english boxwood ( as gifted to him from me ) and yes ill also be p;osting some piccies later tonight or tommorro

Most of the young ones are tied up with work and family.

They are a great weekend for socialising, sharing ideas and generally being over fed.

I have children and nieces in their forties. What with raising children, children's dance, music, sports, birthday parties, etc, volunteering at school, working outside the home, keeping up with housework, etc., etc., it is a wonder the parents work in a full nights sleep.

We had boy - girl twins. As I think back I don't remember much free time. I was a self employed photographer and worked on a series of old below market houses we owned and lived in. Home repair was a hobby of sorts. As was keeping alive the older vehicles we owned.

I did not start turning until my middle to late 60s.

The nicest thing about being retired is having free time. It is so nice to not have to be somewhere on a schedule every day.
