Red malee box with finial
Hi guys , inspired by Cindy Drosda, thought I would have a try at making something similar
No where near her creations but it was fun to make , I had many attempts at the finials the base
and a couple of lids too ! This is what I ended up with .....
Any comments and advice welcome as alwaysCheers smiife

Hi Smiife, Not a bad effort. For what it is worth, I would have used the finial for the stem, and used the finer "stem" as the finial. Again, for what it is worth I think the base could have been about 1/3 to 1/2 the diameter of the bowl to give the piece a more "balanced" appearance.

G'day smiife. The malee box looks brilliant, a very nice piece of turning. I think that the finial is a is a bit too heavy and something finer would set the work off better. Maybe the base could be a bit heavier, would like to see a finer finial first then make the call. Cindy Drosda is certainly a master of the fine, delicate finial. Has got to be a super high skill level in turning those, will look forward to seeing a bit more of your "delicate" side.

Very nice piece mate but i have to agree with with the other guys . the burl section very nice . Getting the correct balance with the stem and finial is not always easy. Still try to make a perfect box myself.

Nice work. I agree that the finial could loose a bit of weight, but very nice all the same.

No base at all and a much smaller finial I think would look great though that's a significant change to the style you're probably after

Getting your finials as fine as Cindy's is one thing, but also have a look at her proportions. The length of the bottom stems and top finials are all precise multiple of the recepticle height, and not always the same!Stay sharp and stay safe!
