Aw man! I'm eatin' my heart out!
I've turned quite a few Oz woods but Mallee is one of the most dense I've worked with. I guess you are used to it, huh? (And please don't say "Yeah, we let the kids turn it." )
The only native wood I know of in our area that's this dense is Texas Ebony. It dulls tools real quick but MAN! does it take a polish. Here's an example. This has no finish other than a buffing.

That TE bowl is a gem Neal.
And welcome.
Yeah, lots of Brown and Red Mallee Burl; AFAIK the name is a 'forest' type, not a species. Pretty stable.
If you think that stuff is hard then try some of our desert acacias. Like eg. Gidgee
FWIW I'd have done your RMB differently. The base overwhelms the bowl IMO. If the blank had allowed I'd have reversed the diameters. Just my 2c worth, which given the state of the stock market is a good deal more than last week ;-}Cheers, Ern

Neal, very impressive, both the bowl and the Pen holder.! and the wood is always better over the pond! we drool over your beautiful wood that you throw into the fire place and vice a versa. Welcome along, and our Aussie humour is just as good as our wood!!!Amos(well, some of our wood!)
