Road Kill
Council clean up time and I picked up four large old furniture legs and a rail (already disassembled) that someone had left out for collection and the dump. Turned out to be great "road kill" as the legs were solid timber, each turned and shaped out of one piece of wood. It is obviously quite old as usually this type of stuff is laminated timber. The legs are around 700mm long and 140mm dia at the widest point. The one leg I have used has turned up nicely. Any suggestions what this timber might be? Note the lid of the urn is turned from a piece of the rail which seems to be a different timber.

Maybe but the grain could be a little fine for that.

A good pickup.
I found about six oak legs under similar circumstances a few years ago .

I'm still yet to use my blackwood legs (1920s oval table- been in the weather a bit and some other damage ) I noticed that there were band-saw marks still on them, now sanded off. Most of the top went towards a box with false bottom, the legs will probably become candle holders - have some glass dishes for 3-4" candles.

Although very unlikely, it looks like some beech I have.

Doragus,
I call that FOG timber, found on ground. I even put that on the bottom of bowls of timber I can't identify. So much timber, so little time.
