    Default Rosewood

I have some 1" by 15" strips of what I believe is Rosewood. They are offcuts used in making furniture. It has a pleasant aromatic smell. Just after an opinion here but is it a good timber to turn? It has a bit of an open grain structure but not sure how well these timbers take a finish.

Tiger, there are a number of varieties of Rosewood or of timbers that are labelled so.

I've turned a bit of Qld Rosewood which was somewhat open grained, darkish red/brown in colour and took a good finish.

And a bit of New Guinea Rosewood which was finer grained, dark apricot in colour and also took a good finish.

The finishes were Rustin's Danish Oil.

Thanks Ern. Not sure what type of Rosewood mine is but it sounds ok as a turning wood from your experience.

Whatever species of Rosewood it is, it should work better than 'dunno wood' off a nature strip.

    Have fun with it.
