    Default Sad news for woodturning

I have learnt today of the sad passing of Mark Baker the Editor of the woodturning magazine (on the 2nd of this month) which he did for many years. I personally have had quite a few phone call with him and spoken to him at length at different venues.

A very sad day for his family and friends as well as the woodturning community at large he will certainly be missed.

Oh dear, that was quick. I read his last column in issue No. 345 and learnt of his illness and how he was stepping down to spend time with his family.

In the last week I received issue No. 348 and there was still no replacement editor and wondered how he was going.

Sad indeed, I always liked his editorial column, somehow, every month he managed to keep it interesting.

Mark was very easy to work with. He did an article about my work in issue 314, that required a few phone calls. In fact we were negotiating a feature article as late as November last year. Mark was very dedicated to promoting wood turning as well as editing three other magazines, plus, taking time out to demonstrate at various wood turning symposium. A very dedicated man.

Sad news indeed. Last time I was in Australia in 2012, bought his book ´wood for woodturners´.
