This one came off the chuck, hit the lathe bed, did a big woobly, spun in around in the air, landed on the concrete floor and ended up with quite few bruises and chips taken out all over the place. The good thing was that i was able to mount it again and finish and end up with a decent result.

That survived remarkably well after it's dramatic tour of your workshop. Looks like a lot of time has been invested in it, it would have been a shame to have destroyed it.

Is that the tenon you used on the base of the vase in the photo ?
What chuck were you using ?

I'll hazard a guess and say that the broken 'tenon' was at the tail-stock end, where you were profiling the base and foot, so when that chip let go it flew off the tail-spur?

Was using a nova chuck and cole jaws which i somehow did not tighten up enough therefor as Uncle Al stated a tour of the shed by the vase took place, don't quite understand the " tenon " bit, only had a blank junk piece on the bottom which i was getting rid off but if it has a technical name so be it.

Tenon: "a projecting piece of wood made for insertion into a mortise in another piece." Or, in the case of woodturning, "for insertion into a chuck."
We mean the little bit on the vases bottom, with the chunk out of it.
Oh... I didn't say so before, but I agree with t'other comments. Nice recovery!
