Had to return a genuine Nova insert recently coz it was wonky. It seated hard against the chuck but the inner and outer threads weren't coaxial. The replacement insert worked OK. Nova's QA is still not 100% since manufacturing moved to China.

"gloat"
Us Vicmarc users never seem to have much trouble with inserts for Vicmarc chucks.
There again, they are made by a Aussie company that understands how a wood lathe is used.
Cheers

Copy of Notice forwarded to Mrs Sawdust Maker
It has come to my attention that Mr Sawdust Maker is planning on making future purchases for that lathe that you still berate him on and I thought it prudent to notify you, so that you can nip it in the bud before his purchases start getting out of hand.Cheers

One of our fellow forumites has just left. We turned a couple of things but I had nothing to do with the last one. Just watched the angles etc and he had the same problem with the rest that observed some time ago.
That is, with the gouge approaching the wood at 45 degrees (ie half way between the horizontal and vertical), the tool is not supported by the top of the rest. And it should be, as close to the work as possible, not half way down the rest.
I've had some new ones made up for me that are with an engineer mate to bring them down a few thou to fit the banjo. I'll post some pics on completion and show that there definitely is a problem with the Vicmarc rests on some cuts. But as wiser heads have already observed, Vicmarc is unlikely to change it's process.

Vermec make rests btw, and yeah, their 4" chuck looks sweet.
Put an order in this a.m. with Vermec for an insert for the SN2/Titan - will see how it compares with the 'tool.
Neil, how did you measure your insert's problem?Cheers, Ern

Ern, I thought the Vermec rests were out of 25mm bar. I need 29.95mm for the banjos on my Vic.
I've seen some great tool rest designs in some of my books and one day I'll get around to it.
Off topic, so sorry.
