Both are inspirational. (I've spent some hours trying to explain to people the size of 's lathe, but they don't get it. Problem solved. Pics taken on the weekend of the long bed lathe and some 4 foot pieces. Same with Ken's stuff.)

I wouldn't dare post the images without permission though, so I implore them both to share. It's not a question of bragging.

As told me earlier today, this forum brings people together from all over the place. Interstate and overseas visitors. And perhaps more importantly, from those just around the corner.

The part that amuses me most out of all of this is that I am a Golden Member.

Ken W on the other hand is a mere apprentice!

I got out into the shed (finally) this arvo and started on Lidded Box no. 5. It's from a pattern that Ken gave me and already I'm way out off the dimensions. I must learn to listen more at the demos, as I didn't allow for the parting tool cuts. Add some more for the occasional catch.

The base looks OK for profile though on the outside. Just waiting on some new toys so I can hollow the inside.

It's out of Congo Mahogany, nice and soft with plenty of colour. End grain tear out is a problem, but my new hollowing technique (thanks Ken) plus the round Ci0 scraper seem to be working OK.

I'll post in a few days, assuming Jim Caroll sends me all those new toys....

It's certainly going to be better than the last one.
