Sheoak bowl
sheoak blank I got from dusteater in WA, beautiful colours and grain patterns
Finally got some time to get to work on this one.........
260mm x 4mm thick ,
Was thinking of piercing this one ...read the woodturning magazine article with Neil Turner
Where he pierced a similar piece like a coral.... so I thought I might give that a try
But then again I will probably stuff it up.....
Any suggestions or comments welcomeCheers smiife

A very nice bit of turning there smiife, I do like the grain of sheoak. Personally, I would practice some piercing on something I was happy to stuff up before trying a piece of wood like this one.

As you already have a lot going on with the figure of the timber, I think piercing would add too much going on. The bowl shape and figure are enough. Piercing a plain not very prominent figured piece would be appropriate. Beautiful bowl just as it is.
So much timber, so little time.

Too good to pierce. That piece is just about perfect as it is, nice delicate balance of thickness/thinness and curves.

Agree with the above sentiments.
Not all piercings look great.
