Simple Turnings
After seeing such amazing detailed and skilled work from other members I have been a little reluctant to post the basic bowls I have been turning out. But one has to start somewhere
All of the turnings have been made from trees that has either been burnt down, collected from storm damage or unwanted timber that was going to be woodchipped or sent to the tip.
A couple of gifts I sent in the post earlier this month:
E. Minita bowl 200mm.
Timber from neighbours felled tree. Arborists were going to dispose the timber and kindly set some aside for me to collect
Erythrophleum chlorostachys. 200mm natural edge bowl
Timber from tree burnt down earlier this year
The profile looks odd from this angle. Photo quickly taken outside post office after realising I hadnt taken any pics
Bowl height about 50mm
Erythrophleum chlorostachys. 250mm Ogeen bowl twice turned
~ 100kg of timber rescued from Caravan park. Tree had been cut down and timber left in the elements for about a month
I asked the park managers if I could take the timber and turn them a bowl in return.
The manager was very happy to take this back home to Tassie after waiting for a few months

.
Simple is always good... IMO.
And, of course, harder to do well.
I'm still striving to perfect my simplest bowls.Stay sharp and stay safe!

Simple can be all thats needed at times especially if its good looking wood being used. Not at all bad. A lot of the best turners stick with simple shapes.

Completely agree with Neil and John.
I watched a couple Richard Ruffin videos yesterday. After watching those I can fully appreciate the elegance of simplicity.

love the simplicity.
I would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds
