Interesting reading Hughie, especially in light of current events .
Texas turner S. Gary Robert's book, Masterful Woodturning describes and illustrates a music box project that incorporates mashrabeya.
In a sidebar he mentions that mashrabeya was used to enclose
unglazed earthenware water bottles placed in windows to cool the air that ventilates houses in the hot desert climate of Egypt.
A well made piece of grillwork might have as many as 2000 pieces in it . If one enjoys complexity this might be just the thing.
