    Default Spalted Silver Poplar

A couple of years ago, a local Landcare group cleared a rather gorgeous, mature silver poplar forest in a creek-bed at the entry to our town, and planted indigenous trees and shrubs in its place. I haven't got much storage space so I secured just a few logs. The timber was soft and a light shade of white.
I picked a piece yesterday to try out, and turned a small bowl (22cms dia). The wood is spalted and rather light. I wish I could have taken a lot more when it was available.
