Default Any suggestion for a large dust mask?

    Hi guys,

    Pretty desperate woodworker here!
I'm struggling to find a good mask that fits my big face (actually, I didn't think I had such a big face until now).
Recently I landed on Rz Masks, as they seemed to be good quality masks. Based on their size chart I've ordered the X-Large size and when it arrived I was surprised to discover that it is actually small for me.
The mask doesn't reach below the chin and if I force it, it will push hard on my nose, making it very difficult to breathe normally. I've only tried one for no more than 10 minutes and my face was quite sore. So I could only imagine the issues wearing one for a full day.

Here is the question: do you know any good mask that will fit a big face? Any mask available in XXL size? I'm sure I'm not the only person with this problem but my researches on the internet didn't lead to anything.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks

Default for the boof-heads amongst us :)

One option is to use the regular surgical masks and add rubber bands.

I saw this earlier in the week: Simple rubber band fix improves surgical mask seal to N95 levels, study shows which is a public-nice version of this: A simple surgical mask modification to pass N95 respirator-equivalent fit testing standards during the COVID-19 pandemic | PLOS ONE

Here is a picture. This is cheap and super effective.

Most masks and respirators i've used either sit on the chin or just below. Getting a mask to seal around your nose and mouth is the crucial part.

Have you tried half masks or full face masks? failing that (and better than a dust mask) is getting a dust collection system setup and do away with the mask altogether.

lol how much money do want to spend? That will have a direct bearing, also will be likely to be involved with demo's or teaching? If none of that, then theres quite a few full face options at various price tags.

If a mask is effective for bugs and viruses riding on aerosols etc, it will work also for dust and mostly VV.

    I swear by this respirator

North Safety 550030L 5500 Series Large Low Maintenance Half Mask Respirator, 1 Each, Cartridge Not Included : Amazon.com.au: Home Improvement

If you search amazon you'll find complete kits...

Been wearing it since I was 18, 40 years ago. I still have two that are at least 30 years old. I often wore it for the full day weeks at a time and after I got used to in was no problem at all. At first I got a heat rash, but after about 3 weeks it has never been an issue. Even now, even if I don't wear it for months my skin has adapted and can wear it for hours without irritation.

I've tried many over the years to see if there's better ones but I keep coming back to this one. All the others have been a combination of materials that often have hard spots that are uncomfortable after enough time, or fit poorly, especially over the nose - often blocking breathing. Whereas the North is all silicone rubber and fits very well. You can get them in small to x-large. The pink filter cartridges are hepa rated and last years. I often gently blow back through to clear them every once in a while and I get years out of them. I know they're working because no dust accumulates on the moisture in the mast... I only replace them if I've used them for asbestos - not interested in taking the chance...

And a good feature, especially if you have ones that are 30 years old, the elastic straps are easy to replace when they rot out - which if you wear them a lot is often on all masks.

Amazon seems to be the best place to find them here.

I believe that the Masks that TheSpinDoctor advocates are particularly recommended by rioters as the organic filters and P100 effectively filter out any.... irritants... that may be used against them.

This seems like a good endorsement!

    Default one born every minute

I have the Trend full face and a smaller dual filter from 3M for those little jobs. But..... itsa PITA design as the filters tend to fall off and stick out far enough to give me great access to knock them off . Should have known better when I saw it on sale at Bunnies,

This looks good dunno if its available here
