Thanks Bob.
Vermec replied to an email saying the adaptors are for Vicmarc 90/100 jaws to be fitted to 'Bonham Nova' chucks.
I take it you didn't have to do any drilling or tapping? $28 sounds a lot for longer screws only .... ? [Edit; sorry, didn't look at 2nd pic; so it's four adaptors plus screws].
Al, yeah, I've sliced some shavings off Vicmarc medium tensile jaws with HSS steel ... eek!Cheers, Ern

latest from Vermec:
You would need to drill the Vicmarc Jaws as the Teknatool Bonham and Nova need 6mm holes to mount but the Vicmarc only have 5mm so you need to drill the jaws out to 6mm.
$25 + postage
So pretty much we're talking one way transfer only?Cheers, Ern

soft as
Ern,
Jaws machined, piece of cake quite soft. Lopped around 4mm of the top took longer to set up than do the job.

The Supernova chucks have a standard 38mm recess for their inserts.
They can go to the 30 x 3.5mm insert in this chuck.
To go any larger requires a dedicated thread chuck as in your case 33 x 3.5mm which is the european standard.
The vermec adaptors work for the vicmarc to nova exchange but that is all that can be confirmed at the moment. Unsure if grizzly or others may adapt. The screw holes are on the same pitch but the locating ring on the back of the jaws is slightly different.
As indicated the Vicmarc jaws have a 5mm hole so have to be drilled out to 6mm to suit the nova screws.
The vicmarc chucks VM90/100 have a 40mm recess so an adaptor is available for these.Jim Carroll

10th September 2007, 11:03 PM #37On this basis would it be possible to convert/machine the existing Supernova to a 40mm recess so the right adaptor could be used.
They have a R Chuck or SNCR that is blank, that can be bored out specifically to the users requirements up m38 max.
Might have to go for a female to male type adaptor. It would most likely need to be made specially as I don't think Teknatool supply such an animal.Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working. — Pablo Picasso

Just to return to the jaw adaptor issue: Vermec claim that while you have to drill out your VM jaws to 6mm to take advantage of their adaptors, they will still be usable on your VM chucks.
...
PM sent Bernie, thanks.Cheers, Ern

Thanks for trying, all of ya, I appreciate it.
I've got an answer from Vermec... seems their adapter is the same as the one I have, but it's probably not out of true!!! But it'll cost me an arm and half a leg to get one of 'em.
Still waitin' on the swap I'm tryin' to set up.... who knows???.......
A mate has just sent for the Grizzly Chuck... the Vic jaws are supposed to fit perfectly... no wonder they call it a Vicmarc knockoff.
Nice job on those jaws, Hughie. I found the same about the blank chucks... sure hate to have to buy two new chucks.Al

Neil thats a new one.
The outboard on the Woodfasts was always 1" x10tpi LH or an M insert.
Will have to check with woodfast if they have changed to the M30 as there is no readily available insert for that size in left hand.Jim Carroll

Getting mixed up between chuck jaws and chuck inserts?

Joe, he sent off for the Grizzly Chuck for his lathe (which was my Old Griz - a model 5979). He found out that the Vicmarc Jaws will fit it.
Now, just to add some more confusion to this thread: Another mate says he has the Oneway jumbo jaws (I guess like Nova Cole jaws...for finishing bowl bottoms) and he says they fit on his Nova Midi Chuck. Anyone clarify this?
If one set of Oneway jaws fit the Nova Midi... won't the other Oneway jaws from that same Oneway Chuck fit the Nova Midi also?Al

FWIW Al, it seems that Vicmarc supply o/s manufacturers who rebrand the products. AFAIK eg Record chucks in the UK are Vicmarcs.
That's not to say there will be automatic compatibility among all the chuck product lines of course ... heaven forbid it should be that easy.Cheers, Ern
