Piccies
Damn, I've already forgotten the secret handshake
Not a bad arvo really, thanks for coming everyone, especially , bad luck Jeremy.
demonstrated the skew, detail gouge and the roughing gouge
also end hollowing on a bit of pine - the right and wrong way
Had lunch - thanks for the banana cake Ozkaban
Ozkaban had brought some really dry and hard sheoak, bulloak or something so we got a demo of how to fit the chuck in a recess etc
Then a demo on sheer scraping using the various chisels, bowl gouge, scraper etc
and Julie stayed for dinner, then I had a personal demo on sharpening and some tuition on techniques for the insides of bowls as we sharpened each of my bowl gouges
They got away at about 9:30 after yet another cuppa

Had a great time at the get together. is very informative and a great instructor. Was lovely to meet Mrs too.
My camera survived being 'nick-ed' , so here are a couple of more photos.
Dunno how to pust the thumbnails like Nick...
and Nick
, Pat, Nicks Back and a bit of Ross.
and finally... the Face of Woodturning in Aus
I'd be interested to see how that lump of Forest Oak turned out. Scientifically identified, by the way - it wass written on it in chalk Was bloody hard and dry, but it looked like there was a nice looking bowl in there trying to get out
I was also quite impressed with the Nova DVRXP. I played with one at a turning course I did, but was concentrating on the turning. Here it was a nice piece of work - handling that (albeit not massive) lump of off balance wood with considerable ease. Very quiet and smooth head stock
Thanks to Nick for organising it, for turning up and Mrs for putting up with all the way from Mexico to Proserpine and back to Syd Oh, and than ks to Nick for the soup for lunch. Very yum!
If or any of the other Melbournites are passing through Syd again, I'm happy to host the next get together.. I'm at the northern end of Syd, just of the Newcastle expressway, so nice and easy to get to
Cheers,
Dave

Nick and Dave great photo's always good to see Forumites standing round watching a demo.
One day we will see hands on demo's maybe, you know Nick Dave Pat all at the lathe with say behind with his axe.
Sorry I missed it but by he look of it the BS must have been really bad having to have a toilet roll so close to the action.
Nick I noticed the lathe was polished up prior 's arrival
Did anyone make it as far as the cubby house to grab some of Nick's stash??

Thanks to Nick and the other Forumites.
We (Julie and I) had a great time.
Nick is going to try to finish that Forest Oak after sussing it out. Could be a saver.
Thanks all.

Did anyone notice 's cigarette in the photos.
It is used as a counter-balance in the use of the dreaded
skew. It sometimes hangs from the left of the mouth,
then the right, and when the wood is finally cylindrical
it dangles from the centre.

Someone (Ross?) at the gtg was asking about gouge grinds
At the time I went to get a printout of something to help - unfortunately it wasn't in the shed - was hiding in the study
I've found the link to the doc I was looking for here
enjoyregards
