    Default technatool Nova 3000

recently purchased this S/H along with various chucks, chisels etc etc It had been sitting doing nothing for around 3 years.
Finally setting up and bolted to the ground etc etc and learning how this works, out of this a couple of issues.
1 the tail stock....it moves easily along the bed until the end, then it really binds down, I got it off by smacking with block of wood and rubber mallet. the end of the bed felt ni different to the rest.......

    2. the headstock, wont turn, I have loosened/removed lockpin, and pulled release handle to the left (outboard?) but it appears to be stuck fast. I dont to hit it with anything nor spray.

Dont want to use the headstock turned away YET, but would be nice to kniw it does turn.

    seeking advice please.

ps. you tubing a few turners and some are self glorified wankers, but this guy for some reason I enjoy, way out of my league but gotta start somewhere.. your thoughts also. youtube Al Furtado Rebel Turner

pps what paste wax do people recommend

There is the locking pin as you mentioned, have you undone the black rod coming out of the left of the unit at the bottom?

Putting the knockout rod into the hole then undoing the rod (anticlockwise) will allow the head to swivel.

I'm not sure if that is totally helpful, as I'm a bit unsure of what is what from your description.

I owned the standard belt driven unit for quite a few years, the locking mechanism (black rod with hole) is a common part.

Mick, yes have unlocked the black bar/shaft at back of feedstock, removed it completely, then push the lever and try twisting but the feedstock appears stuck or jammed

I have not attempted to move my Nova Saturn. I have recently loosened the bolt on a Nova Voyager (drill press) that holds the table. It required a breaker bar to turn it! Clearly the factory eat a lot of spinach!

If the feedstock on your 3000 has not been moved, it may also be tighten to the nth, and require a breaker bar.

are you meaning gentle persuasion with what we over here call a jemmy bar. Not used to your dialect over in that fair part of Oz....I did wave one in front of it tonight and spoke threatening words but it didnt respond.

A local club member came over, having just purchased a Voyager and gone through this. I would say that "breaker bar" = jemmy bar. That is, an extension (pipe) that lengthens a socket wrench, and aids in applying weight behind the turning. LOTS of it!

Check with your local agent first.

no agent near here, and Adel Carbatec where vague ..dont blame the really, ("is it OK to put a steel bar through my Nova and beat the crap out of the pipe, trying to the headstock? ")

there answer 'ahh , err well can you try something else first, it might work but then might not be a good idea'

anyway liberal spray of WD40, several times, removed the chuck, big solid shaft down its throat and bam bam bam....whooo it moved.

so Id guess it needs a cleanup and then a wax paste....recommendations please.
