    Default Testing New Timber

    Hi,

I was given some timber from a friend. He is a tree lopper and he thought the timber looked nice. He cut it into nice lengths and even sealed the ends.

So I decided to try the timber. I don't know the timber and would love to know what it is. Any ideas?

So I made a candle stand. I was so amazed when I turned the timber. It is amazing the difference in the timber when you turn it. I am not overly happy with the form - was trying to accentuate the flaw in timber.DSC_0079.jpgDSC_0080.jpgDSC_0081.jpg

The exterior is not always a reflection of what you see when you turn it.

    Thanks for looking.

    Todd

Given your location and the look of the bark at that diameter, I would say Acacia Salicina - Sally wattle! Not the nicest smelling timber, green or dry, but it does work and finish very nicely
