    Default Any further interest?

The Aussies will have noticed that the A$ is heading towards parity with the US$ which has got me thinking, if I 'need' anything from the US, now would be a good time to do some buying... Maybe some more Thompsons.

Being a beneficiary of Ern's efforts for us collectively last time, I thought it would only be fair to see if there was any others interested in another bulk buy? The primary benefit of doing it this way is that there is some savings on the trans-pacific shipping, especially on the larger tools.

    The Thompson website is here

Please let me know if there is any interest?

Drawing on Ern's experience from last time, the process would be much the same; funds transfer upfront, etc. If necessary, Ern has offered to distribute a second parcel from Melbourne.

Also note that some tools are unavailable (this is marked clearly on the website) and there will be no back ordering as part of this exercise.

And, for the benefit of those that haven't had a chance to use one, what do the people who got a Thompson tool last time think of them now that they have had time to use them for a while?

There is also several reviews on the Thompson website.

    .

I bought the 3/8 detail gauge last time and I love it. It keeps cutting for a long time, and its very nice to use.

I will definitely be in on this order too - just gotta check the website.

I'm also happy to act as a distribution point as I did last time if we need to split parcels due to customs, etc.

    Cheers,
    Dave

Drillit, NeilS is organising this one. Maybe start a new thread Neil to avoid confusion?

Note that all Doug's tools are unhandled but that he is making some spiffy handles separately.

Also that his gouge sizes are measured by rod diameter, which is different from the UK approach.
    Cheers, Ern

FWIW, I really like the 5/8 V gouge for roughing out. Copes well with sand and other crap in bark. But as posted, it looses the fine edge before too long (and no wonder) and feels dull but it will keep on going in this state for ages. If a finishing cut is needed, a lick on a std Alox wheel has it humming again.
    Cheers, Ern
