The fixer did a great job brazing the cast iron parts for the outboard sanding rest back together. I've included some pics below. More of the whole finished paint job to come.

Here she is mostly done. There's a few little things to go but I'll end the thread here. Now that I have a decent lathe I'm organising some classes to learn the basics. Neil Turner runs classes that I'm hoping to book in for November. Thanks again to everyone for their help - special mentions to NeilS, Riverbuilder and Graeme for helping me out re sourcing the missing parts.

Good job Zac,
When I painted my Vicmarc and I wanted a colour close to original.
I contacted Vicmarc and they said a blue hammertone from the hardware.
Well the blue I thought looked as close to the vicmarc blue is not but yours looks very close
So can you tell me what brand of hammertone you used ?

Hi Warrick, it's just the Rust Guard Hammered Finish by White Knight from Bunnings. There's only one shade of blue in their range. Cheers, Zac.

Well done Zack!

The previous owner used the outboard rig for sanding, but the original purpose for that was for outboard turning. The advantage of that is that you can turn some larger sized platters on that than can fit over the inboard bed. Only issue with that is that you will be turning with reverse rotation, so some tools will have to be reground for that, and the thread is left-hand, so your inboard chucks would need a separate L-H adapator. Those are not as readily found nowadays, but someone like Enzo at Home could make one up for you.

Of course, you can continue to use the outboard rig for sanding if you have no need for outboard turning...
