Bowl turning tool parts
Hi all. I brought this tool a few years ago and need replacement cutting tips. The tool doesn’t have any markings and I can’t remember the name. Would anyone know where to buy new cutting tips? Thanks. Ben.

That looks like the older Munro Mega hollower.
Jim at Carroll's can probably help with a replacement tip.

Do you have the jig to sharpen those round cutters? The cutter spins on a mandrel when it is held against the bench grinding wheel. Not sure if the earlier cutters were TC or HSS. I would do TC on diamond or CBN wheel. Small diamond discs in Dremel or power drill will also do the job and are reasonably priced.

Thanks heaps Neill. That’s exactly what it is. I’ll look for a sharpening jig as I’ve never sharpened them so that would be the easiest option. Cheers.

If you can't readily buy one, the jig is a simple affair that you could just make yourself.
A machine thread fits in the end of the shaft to hold the cutter. You might even find an existing piece of rod that is already tapped on the end (eg in old printers). It just needs to be less diameter than the cutter. The shaft then rotates inside the handle (no bearing), which is drilled out to precisely fit the shaft so there is no wobble. The handle could even be made from some hardwood if you don't have a piece of steel of the right size. The hole in the handle doesn't need to be exactly centred, but the tapped thread in the end of the shaft does.Stay sharp and stay safe!
