    Default twisted wire insert

    G'day
This small bowl was inspired by a u tube video by Sprague Woodturning .It shows a twisted copper wire insert in soapstone .Well I didn't have any soapstone, so I decided to do something similar but set the wire in resin .
The wire is a double strand and is twisted using an electric drill . There are plenty of videos online showing how to do this .I used 1mm thick wire, but I think it would have been better if the wire had been thicker . I cut a 3mm groove in the rim and tacked the wire down about every 50mm with CA glue then over filled the groove with epoxy casting resin with black pigment .Two days latter I turned off the excess resin and finished turning the bowl .
The bowl is camphor laurel , about 170mm diam. and the finish is WOP .
There is a slight variation in the wire pattern, indicating that the wire was not sitting dead flat in the groove so I will have to be more carefull next time .
I have ordered some 2mm wire so watch this space .
    Comments welcome .

    Ted,

Nice effect. For your next one you might be sure the twisted wire is straight, and cut the groove so the wire is a snug fit. Make a tool from hard wood to press the wire to the bottom all around. Hopefully that will give you an even pattern.
So much timber, so little time.
