type of wood to stuff up
I mentioned in an earlier post I was trying out on old apple tree timber.
A couple of kind people have inspected my chisels and found them very satisfactory. I have been messing with apple tree (about 2 years old) and not impressed with my adventures, and yes practice makes per.... one better or so it goes.
Living on EP of south oz timber is not laying around in abundance but should I be looking for 'easier timber' to work with and if so....what?I would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds

Building sites have pine off cuts tumbling out of their skips that are suitable for spindle practise.
Palettes at back of Bunnings etc., are another good source after nails are removed.
Glue boards together to make larger faceplate blanks.
Although not plentiful, the desert acacia in your area are wonderful woods, just hard as...!!!Stay sharp and stay safe!

If your near Port Lincoln perhaps there is an arborist there who removes problem trees from peoples yards. There are always interesting trees that need to be removed and all you really need is a chainsaw to cut them into turning blanks, some sealer for end grain and a suitable place to dry them before using. If you don't have that you are way behind the eight ball. Perhaps put an ad on a local notice board etc
