Urn for a friend's ashes.
A friend recently passed and his son asked me to make an urn for his ashes. Biggest project I have undertaken on the lathe and also my biggest resin casting to date. Blank was cast in Eparency "Super Deep Casting Resin" and finish was done with Eparency "Top Coat / Gloss Finish" resin. Very impressed with this resin - no sign of any heat cracking nor any bubbles at all in the main casting (was cast in a pressure pot @ 60psi). Took me a couple of attempts to apply the clear finishing resin, but I think it turned out well in the end.
I don't have a fancy hollowing system, so I hollowed this out using the largest forstner bit I have and then standard turning tools with tungsten carbide cutters. I could not safely hollow more than about half the depth using these tools, so I cheated and hollowed the blank from both ends. The finished / hollowed form was then recessed & epoxied into a jarrah base before final sanding & finishing. Overall height is 25cm and width is 15cm at the widest point.

Id be interested in how the funeral home reacted. Supplying 'their' urns iffers another nice little kickback for them.
or where the ashes presented in a plain tube or box?
used to involved in this gameI would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds

Ashes were presented in a plain cardboard / plastic box. Not sure if the family was offered an urn by the funeral home or not. They asked me to make one some months after the funeral. There are plenty of ETSY stores and similar offering urns - this one is a bit more personal (and a bit better quality than some I've seen). It's a pity that nobody in Australia supplies the brass threaded inserts for the lid - I got some from Carl Jacobsen in the states.
