Variable Speed on the Lathe
Hi all,
Can some one tell me what is the best speed to turn spindles and wood that is being turned into box's and pens and so on? I have a variable speed lathe and i am nnot sure what is the best speed to use it at.

As high as it can go for pens... 3000+ is best but my lathe only does 2000 so that is what i use.
Small spindles anywhere from 1000-3000 depending on diameter and weight. Just make sure the blank is balanced and secure before throwing the speed up high.How much wood could the woodchuck chuck if the woodchuck could chuck wood?

A speed just under vibration level and also one that doesn't frighten the beejesus out of ya.
Also not so fast that the tool won't cut.
