Went off this morning and joined the Knox Community Woodworkers. Turning group is Monday morning. Made a whatsit. and put a tenon on another bit to make into an egg cup or something next week. (Sorry about excessive smiley use. A bit happy today.)
Thanks everyone for the weekend, and the inspiration. Already got to use some of the tips and stuff.anne-maria.

Furnfest
Hi guys,
I certainly enjoyed myself on Saturday and I learnt heaps. Using what I learned on Sat. I finished turning a goblet last night which had two captive rings. I am really pleased with it and the session that Skew gave on goblet turning was very helpful. Also the session on sharpening with Rowie was great and I learnt a lot.

Odd people, turners.
All that fuss over a pair of [ugh!] shoes and not a single comment about the fact I forgot my peeper protectors. (Or took along the wrong tool box. Or...)
I'm glad to hear you got something out of the demo, Anne. I'd planned it to be a "hands on" session, but due to a late start ('twas all Rowie's fault! ) there wasn't really time. Maybe next time. (Or maybe not. )

A good time was had by all
The 'FurnFest' I certaintly enjoyed my time down there putting faces to names. The food, weather, the shed all went down real well.
Wally here is the link to the DC motor web we spoke about.

I've truly enjoyed this entire thread. And though I've never been to Oz, when I saw the piccies, I says to Her Majesty, "That one's Skew... but he's got shoes on... maybe it's not him." But I knew it was... I recognised him long ago, cause it looks like my son peering out at me through that Titanic life ring....
I might also add, some of you blokes just might need to be examined by a professional... and I'm not talkin' about a pro woodturner....
What fun you have in Oz!!!!Al

I thank everyone for a great day! I learnt a few things, tried some very nice hollowing tools, met some very nice people(and a few roughies), I left with less 'firewood'( good one Al') than I arrived with, sold some (cheap) and gave some away, hope everyone was happy with what they got. Thanks to for getting me back onto the horse(skew chisel) after it threw me(pinched 1/2 me bloody little finger off!!) a couple of years ago, and to all the other guys( Hughie etc) who travelled a long way to ease our yearning for learning. OH, and especially to Ern for all his efforts and hospitality, CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE! Thanks again everyone.
everything is something, for a reason:confused:

Hi Skew
I Just put the Pictures of the Hollowing chisel I spoke to you about at the Turn Fest last Saturday
The first picture the top edge is on the tool rest and the point does the hollowing, the bottom edge of the groove stops it from digging in too fast.
The point is only past the bottom edge of the groove by 1-2 mm.
The second picture the chisel is turned over, top edge on tool rest and this is the scraper.
I hope all this jargon is clear and gives you the idea how it works.
This chisel was made by the Eildon Woodworkers, they make lathe chisels of all sorts and sell them at woodwork displays / activities
