Maybe it's just me, but something seems not quite right about the photo's of the VM140. Looks like two different chucks to me. I thought the 140 was a tommy bar type chuck, not a hex key chuck .

Maybe me too. My owners manual shows the VM90 and VM140 as tommy bars and the 100 and 120 as allen key.

I agree.
To add to the mystery it's weight is listed as 4.2kg.
The VM 150 weighs 5kg. The VM 120 is 3.9kg.Cheers,

The following Q&A now posted on this item explains the VM140/VM120 puzzle:
Hi Are you sure it's a 140? It looks identical to my 120 ( stamped on the back). My books show the 140 as a tommy bar chuck. Cheers Phil.
G’day Phil, an interesting observation. This chuck is marked VM140 and is in effect an early model 120 without indexing. Vicmarc only sold 2 models at the time and offered the VM140 with an optional ‘upgrade’ to scroll key operation (this chuck) prior to rationalising their numbering. So yes it is more like a modern VM120 than the current VM140 (a tommy-bar chuck). Cheers

23rd August 2010, 09:51 AM #6Still, if I add $20 for postage and $30 for another insert that brings the cost with the current bid to over $200. A new Companion VM120 is $260 new and Vermec Companion 120 is $275. With 7 days to go and 6 bids in already I expect the final price will go higher. It's not looking to me like a particularly good deal unless the insert thread size fits your lathe and you can pick up to save on postage.Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working. — Pablo Picasso
