    Default vl200

what would an old ( late 80's model ) vl200 be worth . its the one made from C channel not cast bed and has the out board turning toolrest aswell .
and what would be ball park cost figure to turn it into variable speed rather than belt changing .
cant decide if i need it or just want it .

It all comes down to what you are prepared to pay for the lathe, hard to put an exact price on it as it also depends on what extras they are selling with the lathe.

... and its general condition. How well has it been protected from the ravages of time? Is there any significant pitting on the bed - the upper surface of the C sections? It is hard to accurately value a fabricated lathe or give a realistic "fair price" considering that a generic lathe of similar capacity with EVS can be purchased for under $3k. https://www.carbatec.com.au/woodturn...kg-151-74-56cm

Another matter to consider is the spindle thread. Is it 1" x 10 or 1" x 8? You may also have to factor in replacement chuck inserts & faceplates if you already have some gear.
