I have now machined up a new piece to replace.
Dear Fumbler, As you know it would be very ungentlemanly to mention such a horrendous detail in a public forum. We just simply could not do it to you It would as were be heaping coals on the situation. Totally abhorrent and unforgivable in my book, do forgive us.

Thanks Hughie but I’m a big boy and can take it. But also understand the need for non public shaming. But I am now on my third handle due to 2.0 having a catch on the router. I was trying to try a different method of shaping and fed the wrong end in first…. And 3.0 is now better albeit slightly thinner but still strong enough as the support/weight gets transferred down the shaft from the dip (if used correctly). I have also tried to snap it myself thankfully to no avail. I will post pics after final sanding and first coat of Tru-oil.

So finished shaping, & final sanding, I changed my mind and have gone with Kunos Livos oil, #244. If it’s good enough to walk on, it’s good enough for a walking stick!? (Hopefully). Fingers crossed it should be ok.

here’s the 2nd coat pics both applied liberally ‘and using 3m Scotchbrite grey.

final 3rd coat will be rubbed in with soft cloth and then she can hang around for a few weeks to cure.

The third coat went well buffed in and after let hang for a week and bit curing some more, I finally finished the ferrule. Sanded shaped and buffed, sanded through 400/800/1000/2000/3000/black compound/white/T-cut liquid polish.
