WIP New handle for Thompson Gouge
My wife bought me a Thompson 1/2" V gouge for my birthday.
I was at Woodcraft last week and saw this hunk of Redheart and thought it would make a great handle.
I modled the handle after the Easy Rougher handles I saw at a demo.
All comments welcome.

The easy rougher guy said they put it on theirs for when you needed to deliver more force.

A good deal of gouge use involves rolling the tool so I favour one with a 'blob' near the ferrule and a similar diameter at the other end. Doesn't much matter what's in between.

Might need that shoulder in the middle for the rougher, but not for a bowl gouge. "More force" is seldom if ever needed with a bowl gouge.
Can not recall seeing anything in all those easy rougher posts about a lump in the middle of the handle. Guess I missed it.Richard in Wimberley

Roughing out with a bowl gouge I go in as hard as I can. Often stop the lathe. It's fun and quick.
On the other hand, with a new tool or playing around with different presentations, I'll pussy foot for the sake of the learning.Cheers, Ern
