Could have won $20000.
Hi All,
Bit of fun here.
Watching Eddie's Show, Hot Seat, Last Question for $ 20,000. Lady Contestant.
What is a " Spurtle ", Musical Instrument, Kitchen Item, & 2 Others.
She had no idea, but have you ???.
I Turn a fair amount of these. It of course is a K/Item, & it is for stirring Porridge, Jams, Soups, & so on.
Scottish one has Thistle on top, English one an Acorn, Aussie one has a Gumnut.
The trick is, not to make them too long as the tend to float & fall out of the pot if you happen to leave them in.
We have one made out of Dead Finish, which of course does not float.
I have made 3 for our Kitchen, & most get used in one days cooking.
1 is 8"- 205mm. 1 at 8½"- 215mm. & 1 at 11"- 280mm. for the bigger pot.
Google " Wooden Spurtles ".Regards,
issatree.

My mum keeps telling me that I should turn some. I usually just laugh it off as I barely have time in the shed to turn the things I wanna try...
If I was on hot seat though, I'd be thanking her for bringing them to my attention..."All the gear and no idea"

that's not how you make porridge
Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but they
bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs .

Hi Cava,
Well, the 3 are all different.
The main body of the Dead Finish one is 14mm. Smaller one is 18mm at the top & 10mm. at the bottom. The big one is 17mm top & 12mm. at the bottom.
If you have a look on Google, you will see what I mean.
One piece I forgot was, about 90mm. down you but a very small grove.
I asked what it was for & was told "for a small piece of Tartan Ribbon".
OK what did that do, " Makes the porridge beutter ".Regards,
issatree.
