    Don't Know the latin name but I think it's called something else over there. I've heard a different common name but I can't remember it atm.
    I think it comes from South Africa, hence the "cape" name.

    MELIACEAE
    Form: Spreading, deciduous medium-sized tree. During spring small white and purple, sweetly scented flowers cover the tree. The small leaves fall in early autumn to reveal yellow berries.

    White Cedar is a common street tree around here (never heard it called Cape Lilac). Turns easily but wear a mask when sanding. I,ve got something made from it - will do photo tomorrow.

    I don't know that White Cedar does come from Sth.Africa. Always thought it was native.

    Never mind . It is a good timber to turn.
