wood turning newb with Blackwood
Hi all,
I did a bit of bowl turning years ago. I'm mostly a furniture maker. We bought a place that has a few 5-6 metre tall blackwood trees that fell in the last wind storm we had. They are about 200-300 mm in diameter and a pretty attractive warm brown colour. I'd hate to just cut it up for firewood, but I'm not sure if blackwood is turned green or seasoned? If I can season it, should I cut rounds, paint the ends, and store it in the shed for a few years? I'd like to pick up a lathe and have another go at turning as I found it quite meditative, so if I can stockpile and season some "free" blanks, it would be a better use of the timber than chucking it in the wood stove. Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers
