Biggish area unless you have transport.
Not all places will be trading until the New Year too.
In order of my guess at distance from you and ease of access from major thoroughfares.
Sunshine Coast
Woodnworkshop - Kunda Park - Wood N Workshop - Pen Kits - Timber & Turning Supplies - Felder - Bruce Haggie
Not sure they sell tools though.
Bayside
Carbatec - Wakerly - CARBA-TEC - Woodworking Tools and Woodworking Machines
North Side
Lazarides - Banyo (very close to Gateway Mwy) - http://www.lazaridestimber.com.au
WoodTurning Suppies - The Gap - Woodturning Supplies for Wood Turning Equipment and Services
SEQ Woodworking Supplies - Slacks Creek -S/E QLD Woodworking Supplies
H & F - Coopers Plains - http://www.machineryhouse.com.au
Bayside Woodies might be worth a visit if you are around when they are open.

Go to a shop if you don't know what you are looking for or need to fondle some tools.
Beyond that, online is the way to go. The good ones will give you helpful advice via email or over the phone.
If I'm not buying from overseas (which I only do when I can't buy it locally) I always start with our local sponsors, starting with Jim Carroll, and from there in the following order (ie. if it's turning tools I'm after):
1. - Most brands of turning tools other than Henry Taylor, Hamlet and Crown
2. - Have Henry Taylor, Vicmarc and Vicmarc and GPWs
After that, but not sponsors, are:
Vermec - P&N
Timbecon - they carry Crown turning tools, I like their Ellsworth Sig gouge, but have been less impressed with the steel in their 25mm Bowl gouge.
As Chuck says, the postage to your location may come into your decision.Stay sharp and stay safe!
