    Default woodturners day at 's..

    once again opened his workshop to woodturning club members. and as usual we had a good day's entertainment. he had a giant japanese ceder log on the lathe. everyone who wanted had a go at turning it. thank you to for the experience..

    I really hope that the lathe is dyna bolted to the floor.

    Looks fantastic, scary, but great.

    What are the spec's on the lathe by the way???.

    I'd hate to be the one sharpening the tools after that effort. Decent sized blanks would be a bit few and far between too

    From the taper on that log, I would've thought the headstock end would've been more lobed/out-of-balance than the tailstock...?

    Looks odd to me to see them starting from the "easy" end!

    The head stock end is getting carved by the sculptor who commissioned it! So we only get the "easy" end to do!

    Quite so.

    I would love to have got rid of it but we have to do as we are told sometimes.

    To the Forum members that were here on Saturday.

    The log finally kicked over without an initial start at 4.01 this afternoon.

    Tools are streaming water, jackets soaked and helmet needs a windscreen wiper.

    wow thats awesome!!!! the biggest i have turned was like a telegraph pole about 1.5 metres long!
