The worst stink EVER!
I think something died in my head stock. I went to get my spur drive out with the knock out bar and there was some sort of "obstruction", which of course I just bashed through. "Hmm! What was that little squish, crunchy, pop feeling?", I though to myself. A second later the drive pops out along with THE most STINKY STINK that EVER STANK! :keelover: Maybe it was a dead huntsman. Or a live one? Would going at 3000 RPM be deadly? Whatever it was it made my eyes water. Now I'll have too find something to clean out the pipe. Scourer on a stick perhaps? But I think I'll have to get a gas mask so I can go back in the shed!
On the up side, I found the reson why the compact chuck was a bit out. One (Or rather two ) of the dovetail jaws were in the wrong spot. All smooth now. Just REALLY STINKY!anne-maria.

Mouse house TL or maybe
worse a Trapdoor you could always shine alight up there and look metho but not to drink it clean it out.
I recall when in my first year as an apprentice mechanic we had an Escort brought in which had been back constantly for repairs. The fellow had gone OS for a few months the vehicle sat for weeks during this time of year a stench started to fill the air of the 6 floors of workshop. A daily search was done garbages emptied, lockers cleaned cars checked nothing Finally the Escort was worked on it didn't seem to be the problem working up close to it. Untill someone pulled the hubcaps off a dozen prawns hidden inside the whole floor was sick in minutes. It still had to be cleaned up a special call to council to remove the bin and heaps of cleaner disinfectant used for weeks.

Not in my headstock, but I have had bad smells from dead skinks and geckos before
PeterThe other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".

There is a chance it was a bombardier beetle- large pop, acrid stink and black mess. The beetles are jet black, not sure if they are from that far south though. In the new england where I grew up we got them and it was fun to tease them to see the flash and puff of smoke.

Just block up one end and spray room freshener or even deoderant into the shaft. Or you can push a piece of lemon through it.

The surest thing I know of to remove a stink is hydrogen peroxide. Keep applying it untill it stops foaming or the smell is gone. Of course it may cause problems with other stuff it comes in contact with.

Interesting problem. Nasty, yes indeed. I agree with Ern. It's probably a good idea to remove whatever it is before it gets out the end of the spindle and rockets all over the shed. I've cleaned inside of mine with one of these copper pipe cleaners. You should be able to get one at any plumbers supply. A swab down with peroxide may neutralize the stink. Baking soda is another odor eater. Whatever you do be sure to protect electrical components if they are potentially exposed and treat metal parts with something to prevent corrosion immediately. good luck tm
