    Oh! My bad! Its funnel webs that kill ya isn't it. (Window spiders? Do they kinda hang about being Julliet? ) We seem to have a million Hu7ntsmans around here so my money is on one of those. But it was only STINKY GOOP that I found in the head stock. It still stinks a bit. I might have to get one of those long skinny bottle brushes to give it a good going over. Or maybe squirt it with the power sprayer. Only then it might end up all over EVERYTHING instead.

    TL, spray some WD-40 in there ...it should help to clean that gunk out.

    I did that already. It makes an even weirder smell, if that is possible.

    No clue about bugs in au, but here in the us we have large black beetles that we call stink beetles for a reason. They stink if you step on one so i imagine one in a lathe headstock would stink bad. That would explain the crunch and black stuff.
