Zebrawood vessels
These two bowls are the continuation of my "Lostwood" series.
This technique allows me to make a larger turning using less material.
The left bowl measures: 12" x 17" x 3.5", the right: 12" x 18" x 3.25".
The finish is pre-cat lacquer. There is a third bowl in this series.
I donated it to Make-a-Wish Foundation, (this charity grants wishes of terminally sick children).

Gorgeous!
Are they meant to be art, or used? I'm curious about the 'stretchers', is their purpose two-fold? Hold it together and stop any bowing/warping? or could they even be supports??
Must go put some zebra wood on my To get list
Cheers

G'day Mark,
Love the bowls - I can see what you have done but I don't know how.
Can you share?

That's art! I'm like the rest...dying to know the technique especially how you mounted the wood on the lathe.

Thank you!
Hi Wendy,
Thanks to everyone for your comments.
To answer your questions; these are purely art.
The "stretchers" are used to hold the bowl together,
the term "Lostwood" means that the center portion of the bowl was cut out after turning, leaving a space in the middle enhances that effect.
Look here for another bowl made using this technique: Lost Wood Bowl
Cheers, Mark

Hello!
Hi Ken,
Thanks for the comments about my work, creating a new concept is the hardest task for an artist.
With your posting of the Carriage on the wow's, you set a very high bar that only a very small percentage of woodturners in the world can reach.
I'm sure Hans was pleased with the result of his tutelage.
I look forward to seeing your next creation(s).
If you ever travel to the US and want to see Niagara Falls, I'll be your tour guide.
Take care, MarkMark Placek

Hi Mark,
Thanks again for the comments. I agree with you ,coming up with new concepts and ideas is hard. Is does keep the old grey matter working though.
Thanks for the offer of being a guide, if you ever come downunder, look me up and I will show you around.
