Thread: Best place for laminate supply in Melbourne

hi mate - apologies for the late response.... I wish I could help but the only places I know, sell finished boards and benches. Will ask today though, when I catch up with some Woodie friends down in Melbourne.

just home and no good news I am afraid - there are definitely places that sell seconds benches etc. and of course there is laminex Industries, but other than that, the only suggestion is to go to a cabinet maker and ask if they have a supplier you could contact.

You will have to go to a cabinet maker. Laminate companies wont sell to the general public. You also need to have an acccount with them.

What sort of cabinets are you refacing?

The cabinets are postform edge doors, laminate face, a pattern I can only describe as urban camouflage . I was thinking about ripping the edge back and replacing with hardwood, beltsanding the face of the hardwood to match the old laminate (and scuffing old lam in the process), then relaminating, trimming lam to fit and run a fingerpull chamfer on the inside of the hardwood edge.

An admittedly experimental process, but I have three kitchens wanting the service if it works.

I totally agree. I'm almost certainly going to have to remodel the whole kitchen in the future. New purchase so no real money at the mo. Guess who can't possibly live with them the color they are now? I'll give you one hint. It's not a man. I trust that was enough of a hint. The suggestion we leave them until the real job gets done didn't go over well.

Never tried them, but these guys supply Abet Laminati laminates, which are quite widely used for office/retail fitouts.

That place in Hallam seem good, and amenable to small projects. Even dealt with little old me and me teapot handles and I didn't catch them rolling their eyes once. They had a whole sample board of really modern laminex and lots of differant plys and glues. I don't think people worry so much about trade only these days (after the GST) A sale is a sale.

Well, we got another good look at the cabinets (moving in). I think I got approval to leave them be. Who thought you'd ever need approval to do nothing? Phew.

I'd much rather spend the time doing a kitchen from scratch than just fixing up doors.

T Lady, we're in your area, we just got keys for a place in Upwey. We've got a couple of boys, though not as old as your one.
