Thread: Resurfacing a Glulam Benchtop

It's been quite a few years since I've had a tin of 7008 in my hands but I remember that the single pack estapol and the 7008 aren't compatible, ie: you can't recoat one with the other, I just can't remember which way; single over two-pack or the other way round is a no-no. Presumably the same would apply for the cabothane.

You can get a pretty good finish off the brush of you use enough thinners.

Most tenants will report things that break but not things that are worn but still working.
I recently met my tenants after 18 months or so and found a number of timber items that
needed repair. 12 months ago, it would have been a refinish job, now it's a replacement
instead..
I've tried to impress on the tenants to tell me about anything that needs attention on the
basis that it's cheaper to maintain something than to renovate or replace it.

Lateral, One othe thing you should be aware of...
If you poly your benches and they haven't been done before you should seal the underside and sides as well. Otherwise the timber will absorb moisture unevenly and want to warp - more reasons to take the benches out.

I did the undersides of mine with one coat of poly and them painted them with a thick acrylic paint (except the overhang that got the full poly treatment).
