Retiling My Bathroom Progress

Hi all, I have finally gotten around to re-tiling my bathroom. My house is still nearly original 1950's and the pink and black tiles in the bathroom finally HAD to go.
(Fraid there are no before pics, my camera refused point blank

To start with, I ripped up the vinyl floor tiles, maybe 6 months ago, and found red concrete underneath, curved up to the walls, with lines indented into it to resemble tiles. Thought about vinyl tiles for about 2 seconds. Never again. Thought about trying to lay ceramic tiles up the curves to the walls, not likely. Decided that I really do like the concrete.
Easy, I decided, all I have to do is get rid of that old vanity, put in a new one and replace the tiles

Started chiseling the tiles off the wall, no problem with that, but the glue used to stick the tiles must have been strong, takes a fair bit of belting with the comb hammer to get off, (started cleaning down the walls about a week ago). The walls are made of limestone, with a dado finish plastercoat. When I got to around the window, had about 10 tiles that have been reglued, and which refused to come off, except in very small chips.When I got through these, the plaster had cracked, and the limestone behind had started to break away, as well as when I was trying to chip the glue off the bathtub facing. Posted below are some current pics of the current state of my bathroom.
Here are some pics of the current state. It only has to get better, right?
Pic 1 is looking through the doorway, including some of the "lovely" pink tiles that have been removed.
Pic 2 is showing the rest of my bathroom, yes, more chipping to do

The square hole in the old inbuilt wooden mirror cabinet was.
Pic 3 is showing where the wall has broken back, (with the start of some patching work).
Tomorrow, I intend to finish chipping off the glue, patch up beside the window, and the bath facing. Hopefully also to start getting some tiles on

Should hopefully have some more progress to post soon.

Ummm. coastie, what is a renovation levy??:confused:

Had to go back to work today (Holidays over

), but have done some patching and have to wait a couple of days for that to dry, so couldnt do that much anyway. Have put up some tiles, and started doing the cut outs around the shower taps.
Have some more time off starting monday

so should be able to get back into it.
At the moment, here is a pic of my instant temporary shower

Some a--hole councils are into money grabbing exercises in NSW ,and have starting putting a levy on any renovation work carried out no matter how small
much maligned planning minster is trying to knock it on the head!!

Hi, this , (at the moment) is as far as I have gotten with my bathroom. As you can see, I was waiting for the patches to dry next to the window and well as a few others. My colour scheme is now revealed to all

I have replaced the old vanity with one that I made (no doors yet), with the top of this being a...... stainless steel kitchen sink

This is for two reasons, easy to scrub down (the old one collected to much hair dye) as well as, hopefully adding to a chrome and black decor. The black tiles were basically chosen for the same reason, (hiar dye resistance

the fact that they wont date, and when I repaint my bath, it should look whiter.
I am now back to my 'lovely' orange plastic shower cubicle until I have the time to complete this,as I have a few other renovation issues on the go.

Tameriska,
you've certainly set yourself a lot of work to do! You must be pretty tough, knocking off tiles with a scutch hammer, woodfired hot water system and you'll probably tell me you cut and split all your firewood by hand.

Looks like it's starting to move ahead, at any rate.
I did a bathroom reno a few years back that had a concrete floor coved up the wall. I took a diamond blade in an angle grinder to it and then chipped it out with a chisel in my rotary hammer drill. Took a couple of hours, but it meant that the tiles could go in flat, with the wall sheeting running down and hiding all the ugly bits.

The black tiles should look pretty striking but you may need to add extra lighting to compensate. Hair dye! See these are the sorts of things I never think about, neither SWMBO or myself dye our hair, but I suppose if we ever did it might impact on the vanity top. Keep us posted on progress.

Thankyou renomart, journeyman Mick. At the moment dont cut my own timber, buying it:mad: then I split it to fit it in. Just waiting for the wagon to come back from the mechanics, then will get my bf to start up the chainsaw.
Am being slack, just retiling the walls, the concrete looks ok with the tile pattern in it, no cracks, and if I change my mind about the colour of the floor, hopefully paving paint will go on red concrete

(on second thoughts, will paint the walls white, then it will be the right team colours, Saints
