Hole in concrete slab for clothes line
I need to move my mother in law's rotary clothes line into the middle of an existing concrete slab. It is one of those removeable ones that Hills makes.
I am thinking about getting a core drill and putting a hole through the slab of the appropriate size so that the hole itself supports the clothesline without a separate socket thinking that this will be a neater looking job.
Do think I would need to sleeve the hole to stop the dirt crumbling into the hole below the slab? I think that it would be sufficiently stable and compacted not to cause a problem.
Can anyone give me an opinion or advice?
Am I on the wrong track entirely?

Sorry Jon, I think you may be going down the wrong track.
Those removable fittings still have to be concreted in so that their stable.
To core hole isn't cheap and the pole will wobble around inside it.
Mark out a 350 x 350 square. Angle grind or wet saw the square and kanga hammer or just sledge hammer out the concrete.
Dig out the original sleeve mounting and carefully remove the concrete that encases it and reuse it in new hole.If the old mounting sleeve proves stubborn I'm sure you can buy a new one.
Then just re-concrete around and edge your join with an edging tool, maybe even an expansion joint. At that point you will appreciate making those nice neat cuts!
I really think that due to the height of the line and the pressure that it creates even if the underlying soil was compacted you will get a horrible wobble after a while if you just core drill.

The beauty of my core hole solution was minimal effort from me But as you have pointed out, it will bring me grief from MIL down the track 
:eek:
I will pencil in a weekend and start cuttin and diggin.

How about drilling the hole oversize then concreting the new sleeve in?

Dan, You still will have to dig a 500mm deep hole to place the pole in, pretty hard if the hole is narrow. Or if your talking about drilling a 300mm wide hole the cost of getting someone in to do that would be more than the lines worth.
