    Default Lawn Substitute

I've removed all the lawn front and back to create garden beds and planned entertainment areas. I'd rather water plants then a large expanse of lawn which seems such a waste of water.

In one area I have a sunken limestone garden and want to have a green walkable ground cover.

But I'm having trouble coming up with ideas.

Something that can take full sun, not require heaps of water, preferably non-mow, can have flowers and something that you can walk on.

Dichondra I like but it's too water hungry plus the foliage is smaller in the sun and it doesnt really like the sun at all. Lippia was another until I discovered it has been classed as a weed. Corsican mint would be great but again it requires too much water.

There's not much to choose from and you have named most of them. Native violets if you have at least partial shade.Mondo grass but it doesn't handle much wear, some of the thymes may be ok.

Nah I'm getting to old to start any more occupations. I've already had over 35 in my lifetime.

Anyway it wasn't my idea it was Ashore's, I was just adding a comment to his.

lawn chamomile, "persian carpet" thyme - both in the 'lawn' section of www.diggers.com.au , also perhaps 'running postman' (is this a common name for Dichondra?) , or one of the pigface's (both Aus natives).

I'm pretty suprised that no-one's mentioned the 'g' word.
    Cheers,

Running Postman I think is the red type of Kennedia...Not something you want to walk on.

Someone said the Corsian Mint didnt need heaps of water but other sources say it does. Anyone had any experience with it?
