I have just moved into a new house. One of the interior latches has been installed backwards. I need to take it apart and turn the latch around. The problem is that I just can't get it apart. It is a Gainsborough interior set without any lock of any sort. From what I can work out, the first step is to unscrew the brass decorative plate that is right next to the door. Problem is that I can't get it to budge. It is too tight. I have tried with a rubber plumbing strap thing, but there is not enough width on the plate for it to grip. I have a stilson wrench that I suspect I could probably undo it with, but I suspect that it wouldn't look very good after that. Any tricks on what I can do to loosen it off?
