Hithere,
We have had rot in our arcs around our timber windows on our weatherboard house.
They are on the south side of the house and have no eaves above them.
The first builder had put the arcs over the widow frame on top of the flashing that is around the actual window. They sit out from the window (which is unusual) and the weatherboards sit behind and under the arcs. This creates a gap for rain to run down. Water has run down the space between the window frame and the arcs and rotted out all the arcs at the bottom of the window.
The builder doing the repairs has put flashing under the weatherboards above the window, and out over the top of the arcs. He has fixed it over the top front of the arc, and down about 1cm over the front . He has done this with industrial staples that can be seen when looking at the window front on. He says this is the only way to stop water running down the back of the arc and rotting it again.I cannot see any other windows done this way and questioned him about it. He said it is the "Professional"way to do it. It look awful but he says painting will make it look better.
Any ideas cos I don't agree with how it looks, but he says I'm "stressing too much"
