    Default any ideas....

G'day everyone, long time looker first time poster.
I recently 'finished' my owner built house, the chippy that did the fix drilled 55mm holes in the doors and the passages sets we've chosen only require 25mm holes. So I've either got to patch the holes or replace or the doors.
    Suggestions welcome

Don't the knob backing plates cover the holes?

Yes, the coverplates fit on over the main housing and cover the hole but the 2 sides have nothing to fix onto to support them.

You could try drilling some more 54mm 'plugs' from suitably thick timber & glue them in (seeing as how the cover plate will hide everything) - or look in the rubbish for the originals. Alternatively - builders bog.

Or, get the chippy back and ask him to fix his mistake. (Assuming it was a paid job, and the specs were called out).

Don't use bog. It is aptly named, and will fall out after the door is slammed once or twice.

Yep tried that but the 'plugs' aren't bigger enough to re-drill the new smaller hole size out of and they just fall apart. Might try the bog idea.

Sorry gregoryq, we both replied at the same time.
At the end of the day I have to take the blame for not being thorough enough in the detail, for the sake of 8 new flush panel doors it looks like I'll replace them and do it properly so it doesn't end up looking like a bodged up job.

    Lesson learned!

Yeah, we accumulate a lot of those lessons, don't we? Any chance of exchanging the passage sets for ones to suit the 55mm hole? I ask this knowing how difficult it is to find good ones in the first place.
