Rejuvenate and Protect Timber Windows - A Few Questions
Hi,
The timber windows in our home were varnished by a previous owner, the vanish is now flaking and timber weathered. i have started to strip back but wanted to get some advice. As a newbie I have a few questions:
1 - What type of wood are these windows, cedar? (see images below).
2 - What is the best removal method, I have been using a Tungsten Carbide Scraper for the wide sections with decent results so far. I haven't tackled the smaller pieces yet, grooves etc.
3 - What is the best way to prep then seal/protect the timber so I dont have to do this again for a long time? Living in Adelaide the suh (uv) is the main concern, although they are south and east facing. Would I look at varnish, oil or other. Any specific products recommended?
